Whether the photographer works in the studio or on location there are many skills other than making the photographs that are important. One of these skills is the ability to work with models. He or she must be able to help the art director or client in the selection of the models, often based on experience gained in working with them, and how they respond to direction and work with other models. Helping in selection of proper clothing or costumes might be required along with efficient scheduling. Of course, in the larger studios the stylist or studio manager might help with these details. Depending on the size of the shooting budget, he or she may be called on to secure models for jobs in remote areas away from large cities, in which case it may be necessary to scout the area for usable local people.
