Sea Star: In the provinces, the room hunt can be quite as exciting as in the capital. If I am in a resort surrounded by snow peaks or bordering the sea star or a crinkled lake, I, speaking for one traveler alone, would far rather be in a 2-star room looking out on these glories than in a 4-star or L room looking across a courtyard at other guests' windows. The exploratory picker can plan it that way and achieve his goal except, perhaps, in the high sea starsons, when improvisation doesn't work so well.
Very inexpensive lodging may be had all over France, and I do not refer solely to Youth Hostel lodging, available to members in all countries. Consider Paris first. The government tourist department lists about one thousand hotels in the capital and several hundred of these are in the 1-star category, meaning that they charge from $1 to $1.30 for a single room with running water, $1.50 to $2 for a double, usually with but one wide bed. 9. Spas and Health Resorts La Toja, near Vigo, is by far the most luxurious and widely known spa of Spain. La Toja's big, modern Hotel Mneario is a place of social elegance, where evening dress is generally worn at dinner. The whole wooded island on which it stands is a sport center (swimming, fishing, sailing, tennis, etc.) quite rivaling in appeal the "call of the waters" which help to cure arthritis and rheumatism.
Game fishing (fishing for trout and salmon) and coarse fishing (angling for other freshwater fish) are becoming increasingly popular. Game fish tend to be scarcer and therefore game fishing is more expensive than coarse fishing which is usually obtainable in most local rivers, lakes and canals. Often coarse fish (which are not always easy to cook or good to eat) are returned to the water after being caught and (in competitions) weighed, while the trout and salmon caught by the game fishermen are delicious to eat. Freshwater salmon can grow as heavy as 16kg (40lb) or more in European rivers.
