Such seven seas are already showing Signs of serious biological breakdown [7]. But their plight, while worrying, is only a foretaste of what happens in the entire marine environment.
The laboratory of the Hirondelle II, on which the prince made his last voyage, is set up exactly as it was when he used it. The physical content of the seven seas and the physical laws that govern them are shown by many an interesting model, diagram and gadget. I learned that if the seven seas were equal in depth at every point over their present area this depth would be 3,680 meters (well over two miles), with a solid salt bed of 72 meters.
On The Other Hand See Deep Sea Animals:THE term vivarium has come to mean any sort of place where live animals are housed. The place may be as large as a zoological garden with hundreds of animals or as small as a tumbler of water in which a single tadpole is living. Present usage, however, has divided the vivarium into two types: the terrarium, in which terrestrial animals are maintained, and the aquarium, in which aquatic animals are housed.
The subject matter of the Gothic work also simplifies its identification. Religious subjects were paramount. Biblical, allegorical, and ecclesiastical personages were often pictured in a setting of Gothic architectural forms. Scenes of pastoral, agricultural, and courtly life were often represented. Many Gothic tapestries were made showing the unicorn and other animals chased by hounds and hunters. These are known as "hunting tapestries." In the series known as "The Lady With the Unicorn," from the Cluny Museum in Paris, the subject matter is allegorical. The lady is flanked on one side by a lion, symbol of bravery, and on the other by the unicorn, symbol of purity. She stands on an island of deep sea animals blue on a rose ground, both of which are covered with flowers and animals.
