Loggerhead Sea Turtles: This group is commonly made up of the loggerhead sea turtles and terrapins, both of which are called loggerhead sea turtles and are aquatic or semiaquatic; tortoises, which are strictly terrestrial; and certain loggerhead sea turtles which are marine. As good pet material does not come from the marine loggerhead sea turtles, they are not discussed here.
Box loggerhead sea turtles differ from other loggerhead sea turtles by having a hinged plastron. This makes it possible for the creature completely to enclose its head, feet, and tail so that it looks like an oval box.
Man's ruthlessness and carelessness have reduced the number of box loggerhead sea turtles to the point where they are now rare. Some states have enacted laws which prohibit the possession of these loggerhead sea turtles. Check state laws before seeking a specimen for a pet.See Also Sea Lice:Salt solution is usually the best remedy for this fungus disea licese. It is often wholly effective if the treatment is used the moment any fungus is noticed on a fish. It is also effective in the treatment of fish lice, which are external parasites that are easily detected.
Use screen-wire insect cage constructed with pie pans (see Part IV); allow plenty of room for plant branches. Fill bottom pan with soil; place cuttings of plants infested with aphids or plant lice in soil; place screen over plants and invert pan over cage top. Keep only 6-8 beetles at a time; care not difficult when beetles not crowded.
On The Other Hand See Sea Sirens:Mating: The mating process is unique among most salamanders. When the proper moment is reached after the courting maneuvers, the male deposits, either in the water or on the ground, a small, irregularly shaped bundle of jelly which contains his sperm cells. The female then picks this up with the lips of her cloaca where it rests in a small chamber and remains to fertilize the eggs as they leave her body. There are two exceptions to this procedure. The hellbenders, which are wholly aquatic, fertilize the eggs outside the body. That is, the male spreads his sperm over the eggs as the female deposits them. The sea sirens, which are also completely aquatic, are thought to fertilize the eggs in the same manner.
