Inflatable Boats: PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES (PFDS)
An approved personal flotation device in good serviceable condition, and of a suitable size, is required for each person on the boat, with a minimum of two (one wearable and one throwable) for boats 16 feet and over. Children must have properly fitted child PFDs, which come in various sizes marked for the user's weight.
Wearable PFDs must be readily accessible; throwable devices must be immediately available. PFDs must not be stored in unopened plastic packaging.
For inflatable boats PFDs to count toward the legal requirements, you have to be wearing them at the time of inspection or boarding.
For personal watercraft riders, the PFD must be worn and have an impact rating.
