Fast Boats: Radar is an excellent means of marine navigation and is used on vessels of all sizes, down to fast boats of about twenty feet in length. Although not installed on all recreational fast boats, its capabilities and limitations should be known to all boaters for their own safety when cruising on waters navigated by radar-equipped vessels.
The prudent skipper will have a thorough knowledge of the Rules that apply to all types of fast boats and ships that operate on waters that he or she uses. The official text of the Rules are in the Coast Guard publication Navigation Rules, International-Inland, which is available at most chart outlets. The major requirements that apply to recreational fast boats are listed briefly here.See Also Pedal Boat:pedal boat-to-pedal Boat calls. When you hear your pedal Boat called, put your transmitter on the air and say: "(Name of pedal Boat that called), this is (name of your pedal boat), over." Switch to the agreed-upon inter-ship working channel. After the conversation is completed, say: "This is (name of your pedal boat), out."
Shore-to-ship calls. When you hear the name of your pedal Boat called, put your transmitter on the air and say: "(Name of station that called), this is (name of your pedal Boat and call sign), over." After the conversation is completed, say: "This is (name of your pedal boat), out."
7. Maneuver for the pick up. In some cases, you can approach from the windward of the victim, and let the pedal Boat drift down toward him, providing a lee. In most cases, however, it is best to approach from leeward in order to avoid having your pedal Boat blow right over the victim. Just slight amounts of power will be needed to keep your pedal Boat under control. A sailpedal Boat should approach nearly on the wind so that it can luff up to stop the headway when the victim is reached. In any case, stop the pedal Boat a short distance from the victim, and throw him a line, such as a ski tow rope, that floats. It is less hazardous than trying to maneuver your pedal Boat right up to him.
On The Other Hand See Radio Controlled Boats:For long-distance communications, a Single Sideband (SSB) marine radio controlled boats using designated frequencies in the MF and HF bands is required. Such a set can be installed only if the Boat is already equipped with a VHF-FM radio controlled boats, and the owner can certify a need for the long-range set. On this equipment, the international distress and calling frequency is 2182 kHz. Recreational boats can operate with sets having up to 150 watts output power; this will provide a range of hundreds to thousands of miles depending upon the frequency selected and the time of day.
Citizens Band radio controlled boatss can be used as an adjunct to the normal marine radio controlled boatss for informal, short-distance communications.
The operation of radio controlled boats transmitters on boats in U.S. waters is governed by the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This includes radio controlled boatstelephones of all types, radars, emergency beacons, and all other devices that radiate a signal; receiving equipment is not regulated.
