Waltzing mice are said to have been brought to America from either China or Japan, but their origin seems not definitely known. Their waltzing habit, for which the strain was deliberately bred, is caused by a defect in the mechanism of the inner ear which controls the sense of balance. They are smaller than the colored mice described above, and are deaf sailing and very delicate. They are not recommended as pets, and so are not further discussed here.
